Course Description

The MSc Advanced Practice course offers an exciting opportunity for health care practitioners to develop and enhance their practice. This Master’s degree specifically aims to prepare practitioners to function at an advanced level of practice and directly influence the care of individuals through leadership and change management strategies.

Advanced Practice has been developed in partnership with the local health authority and has a key focus on advanced work based practice. You will be supported throughout the course by the highly experienced course team and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including e-learning packages and skills laboratories. Practitioners completing this course will be able to function at an advanced level of practice within relevant professional and organisational frameworks.

Entry Requirements

  • A current professional registration with a relevant professional/statutory body, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Normally, at least five years post registration clinical experience in practice OR proof of equivalent experience in practice

This course will allow practitioners to function at an advanced level of practice within relevant professional frameworks and organisational requirements.

Module Details

The course includes five core modules

 

  • NP4001 Evidence, effectiveness and evaluation
  • NU4138 Advanced work-based practice project: design and construction 
  • NU4139 Advanced work-based practice project: delivery and implementation 
  • NU4140 Advanced work-based practice project: evaluation 
  • NU4141 Deconstructing the consultation

Students have a choice of four optional modules from the following list:

 

  • NU4142 Advanced patient assessment and diagnostic skills
  • NU4143 Advancing care management at the end of life 
  • NU4144 Managing mental health needs 
  • NU4145 Emergency care services for individuals and communities
  • NU4137 Advanced stroke practice
  • NU4007 Solution focussed interventions
  • NU4017 Enhanced cognitive behavioural interventions for anxiety and depression in primary care 
  • NU4021 Safeguarding children in a multi-professional environment 
  • NU4054 Community and social policy practice
  • NU4055 Concepts of public health
  • NU4153 Managing cardiac illness
  • NU4270 Safeguarding vulnerable adults
  • NU4805 Leadership in practice
  • NU4146 Minor health issues and illnesses
  • NU4023 Non-medical prescribing
