Course Description

This programme provides the opportunity for postgraduate inquiry and exploration of architectural themes. This is centred on a master’s level dissertation, which responds to the RIBA’s aims of the developing of specialist interests and knowledge in the profession of architecture.The programme encourages a broad field of enquiry, and can draw upon the professional and research expertise found elsewhere in the School of the Built and Natural Environment. Students will develop the ability to apply master’s level critical appreciation and inquiry to the professional practice of architecture; enhance their lifelong learning skills. This programme does not give exemption from the ARB/RIBA Part II professional examination.  

Entry Requirements

Applicants will normally have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent academic achievement) and an upper second class postgraduate degree in Architecture (i.e exemption from the ARB/RIBA Part II professional qualification).

Additional evidence of other attainment and/or relevant work experience may also be sought to support an application. The RIBA Part I qualification may be accepted in lieu of an undergraduate degree.

Where English is not the applicant’s first language, applicants must have a good level of ability in listening, writing and communication in English, measured as a 6.5 IELTS score in each aspect or an equivalent score achieved within two years prior to entry to the programme. This requirement will be waived where the applicant’s first degree has been taught and examined in English.
