Course Description

As a Business Information Technology professional, you know that introducing a new information system is more than a technical installation, and requires insight in business processes and culture.

Information and Communication Technology has not just provided us with new technical tools and opportunities, it has drastically changed the way we work. As a Business Information Technology professional, you are fully aware of the fact that introducing a new information system is not just a technical installation, but requires good insight in business processes and organisational culture.

You are able to assess and contribute to the full life-cycle of planning, analysis, design, development, implementation and operation of business information systems from a scientific perspective. With a bachelor degree in Business Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, you have the opportunity to further specialise your knowledge and skills in this "bridging" field.

Entry Requirements

The general requirements for admission to a UT master’s programme are:

– A relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) from a university or other accredited academic institution.
 
– Sufficient mastery of the English language:
 
Academic IELTS, overall band score of at least 6.5
TOEFL, internet based (TOEFL-iBT) of at least 90
Cambridge CAE-C (CPE)
Chinese nationals need a Nuffic certificate.
 
In addition to these general requirements, specific requirements may apply to individual programmes.

Module Details

The programme comprises a total of 120 European Credits (EC), divided over a common part and an elective part.

Common modules
A number of modules are common to all MBI master’s students. These modules are worth a total of 65 EC and concentrate on three main themes: System Lifecycle, Integration in Business Networks en Research.

Elective modules
Alongside the compulsory modules, you must also take elective modules worth 20 EC. Your elective modules should revolve around contributing to/being involved in chair research. There are countless modules featuring IT in a central role, such as IT in Finance, IT in Healthcare and Production and Logistics Information Systems. In choosing your package of elective modules, you should make sure that you find a balance between business and information science subjects.

Master thesis
An individual graduation project worth 30 EC concludes the master’s programme in Business Information Technology. This could involve an project at an external company or within one of the research groups at the University of Twente. You will spend the six month graduation period working with professionals, which will allow you to integrate and apply your knowledge and skills to problems from the field. The final step to your master’s degree is to write, present and defend your master’s thesis.
