Description

Our Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Management MSc is a multidisciplinary study programme that will give you a deeper understanding of the processes and techniques for managing environmental change. You will develop skills to assess the causes and manage the consequences of environmental, climatic and land use changes, choosing either a research or a consultancy pathway to frame your study.

Module Details:

Required Modules:

  • Dissertation in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Management (60 credits)
  • Methods for Environmental Research (20 credits)

Additionally, you are required to take 20 credits from one of the following pathways:

Research

  • Environmental Research Design and Application (20 credits)

Consultancy

  • Environmental Processes and Management (20 credits)

OR

  • Environmental Science and Policymaking (20 credits)
  • Environmental GIS
  • Environmental Remote Sensing
  • Methods For Environmental Research
  • Modelling Environmental Change At The Land Surface
  • Monitoring Environmental Change
Optional Modules

Optional Modules

You will take 60 credits from a range of optional modules that may typically include:

  • Environmental Remote Sensing (20 credits)
  • Modelling Environmental Change and the Land Surface (20 credits)
  • Monitoring Environmental Change (20 credits)
  • Environmental GIS (20 credits)

You will then study further modules to bring your total up to 180-190 credits for the degree, and you will choose from the following:

  • Any of the modules listed above
  • Any Level 7 (master’s) modules offered in the Department of Geography
  • Up to 20 credits in Level 7 modules from any departments or institutes outside of Geography. Subject to approval.
  • Environmental Research Design & Applications
  • Environmental Remote Sensing
  • Modelling Environmental Change At The Land Surface
  • Monitoring Environmental Change
  • Environmental GIS

Fees

Full time UK fees: £9,450 p.a. (2017/18); Full time overseas fees: £18,420 p.a. (2017/18); Part time UK fees: £4,725 p.a. (2017/18); Part time overseas fees: £9,210 p.a. (2017/18)

Entry Requirements

General entry advice

2:1 undergraduate degree (or international equivalent, e.g. GPA of 3.3 from a US University) with preference given to geography, natural sciences (such as environmental science, physics, chemistry and biology) and engineering subjects

Candidates who do not achieve a 2:1 but have professional or voluntary experience will also be considered. Mature candidates will be considered favourably.
