Course Description

Having the ability to speak another language is an incredible skill to have. By studying a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), you can use that skill to take advantage of teaching opportunities in the UK and beyond.

There’s a huge demand for French, German and Spanish teachers in the UK. That’s why you could receive a £10,000 Government bursary to support you financially through the course. Gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in just one year with this degree.

Entry Requirements

  • Normally candidates will have an honours degree at 2.2 or above in French, German or Spanish or in a subject where the content can be demonstrated to be at least 50% Modern Foreign Language.
  • This may be discussed at interview.
  • If you are unsure about the suitability of your degree or you are a native speaker of French, German or Spanish, please contact the course co-ordinator for advice.
  • Applicants also require a second language preferably to A level (or equivalent) in French, German or Spanish, although this can be gained prior to the start of the course in September.
  • All candidates must have achieved grade C / 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths.
  • All applicants will be required to demonstrate awareness of professional requirements within schools and an awareness of the education sector.
  • GCSE Equivalency: We would normally expect applicants to have taken and passed the full GCSE course however in some circumstances we do accept equivalent qualifications or equivalency tests. If you are unable to enrol for the full GCSE course, please contact Admissions to discuss which equivalent qualifications we may accept.
