PGCE Teacher Training (Secondary)

Course Description

If you’re looking for a lifelong, challenging and exciting career using your degree subject knowledge or experience, teaching may be for you. The university awards secondary teaching PGCEs in eight core subjects: mathematics, modern foreign languages, religious education, physical education, biology, chemistry and physics.

This one-year programme aims to help you become a competent and effective teacher of your subject within the 11-18 age range. You will spend 26 weeks in at least two schools, where you will receive invaluable support from experienced teachers. You will return to central provision at regular intervals throughout the year for professional development and subject pathway seminars.

Entry Requirements

  • you will need at least a 2.2 honours degree or equivalent in an area that supports one of the main subject specialisms
  • you will need a minimum grade C in English Language and Mathematics at GCSE 
  • you must pass the NCTL skills test prior to commencing the course 
  • all applications should be made through UCAS – www.ucas.com
  • EU and international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other band) or equivalent
