The School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh offers reputable Masters’ programmes in Particle and Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Physics and Mathematical Physics and our new programme in Astrobiology and Planetary Sciences.  You will be taught by renowned academic staff with links to major research facilities across the world, including CERN, TRIUMF and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. We are ranked 2^nd in UK and 12th in the Shanghai classification of academic subjects 2021.

The taught element of our programmes includes compulsory courses which will bring you to an advanced level in the required subject area. You will also have the opportunity to select courses from a range of options depending on your interests and career ambitions. Following the taught component of the programme, you will undertake a three-month research project leading to a dissertation.
