Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) PGCE

Overview

The PGCE Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) is a professional teacher education course that will qualify you to teach in the post compulsory education and training sector.

This PGCE PCET course is designed for graduates with degrees from a wide range of subjects, including those not widely taught in secondary schools (such as sport science, health and social care, and dance). It will equip you with the necessary tools to teach adults and young people and give you the opportunity to share your knowledge in a way that helps others to fulfil their potential.

You will be assessed on your potential to learn and not your experience.

If you are already employed in the PCET sector, we also offer an In-Service Part-Time PGCE (PCET).

Location

The School of Education is based in Wearside View, one of our recently renovated buildings at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s. Wearside View features a number of spacious classrooms for teaching and learning, as well as a newly refurbished social space with its own balcony.

The Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s is positioned right next to Sunderland’s scenic riverside, and is just a short distance from both the city centre and beaches. The campus benefits from a variety of brilliant facilities, including its own library, IT resources, and several eating and drinking options.

Career ready

When you complete the PCET course, you will have a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training that will qualify you to teach in the PCET sector.

Previous graduates of this course have gone on to employment within Further Education colleges, sixth form colleges, training organisations, charities, universities, prison education, and community and adult organisations.

Following successful completion of the PCET course and once in a teaching post, you will be able to apply to the Society for Education and Training (SET) who provide the recognition route to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status through their professional formation process.
