On this exciting two-year course, you'll have a unique opportunity to study the latest educational research and gain professional work experience within an educational organisation or setting through a work placement.
MA Education has Placement Year, a one-year course option and Advanced Research pathway.
The work placement takes place in the second year of the course and is normally unpaid. During this year, you will be supported by our Placement Team to identify and apply for year-long placement opportunities that reflect the skills and knowledge you have gained. You will have access to contacts through our extensive network of partnership schools and local educational organisations however placement cannot be guaranteed.
Students on the MA Education (with Placement Year) who are unable to secure an appropriate work placement can transfer on to the Advanced Research pathway in the second year. We also have a one-year course available.
an honours degree (2:2 or higher) in a relevant subject such as Education, SEND, Childhood Studies, Social Sciences, Coaching, Mentoring or Counselling or other related fields. Other degree qualifications will be considered depending upon relevant professional experience in an educational context such as schools and colleges. Overseas awards need to be recognised as equivalent by NARIC
English language GCSE Grade 4 (iGCSE Grade C) or above or equivalent
a short personal statement (no more than 500 words) explaining why you are interested in education and any relevant experience (professional or voluntary) that might support your application
a work or academic reference.

The MA Education with Placement Year award aspires to prepare graduates for successful careers in the field of education. This programme equips graduates with the skills to critique, influence and improve policy and practice in a range of educational contexts and can therefore transform careers. Graduates from this programme often secure promotions with their current employer or venture into research, advisory or policy-making roles. Some students gain positions in new education contexts, such as higher education and progress on to doctoral study.
