Our MRes students also finish the programme well prepared for PhD research. Previous master’s students have gone on to do PhDs at Reading, and at other excellent institutions in the UK and elsewhere.

Module Details

The MRes programme is structured into three individually supervised essays, an oral presentation, and a dissertation. Topics for essays and the dissertation can be chosen from any of the main areas of philosophy.

As this is not a taught master’s, there are no modules in the sense of prescribed units of learning. You will have the freedom to choose the subject areas in which to complete your individually supervised work.

Possible topic areas include epistemology, philosophy of religion, moral philosophy, political philosophy and aesthetics.
