Your training will prepare you to teach your chosen subject specialism to 11 to 16 year olds, with opportunities to also understand and experience teaching and the curriculum in the 16 to 19 and the 9 to 11 age ranges. We will help you to gain extensive experience that will prepare you to teach in UK schools, providing training in behaviour management, inclusion, planning, teaching and assessment.
We will give you the necessary independent learning skills – such as critical thinking and the ability to use theory and research to reflect upon your practice – so you can continually develop throughout your teaching career.
Our University works in partnership with local schools, giving you the opportunity to gain substantial training and support in a school environment. In meeting the Government standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), this course will give you the skills and qualification required to be a practising teacher and to bring out the best in you as a future educator.
Applicants with a degree in a related discipline (for example Engineering) and strong A Level grades or work experience in Physics are encouraged to apply and may be offered a place subject to completing an approved Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programme prior to the commencement of the course.
Applicants with a lower second class honours degree (2:2) will be considered if they have relevant work experience.
Satisfactory health and enhanced criminal history checks will be required by all applicants prior to acceptance on the course. The DBS in the UK is currently not able to conduct overseas criminal record checks. International applicants, those without British Citizenship and British Citizens with a significant period of overseas residency therefore require a criminal records check or certificate of good conduct from their home/overseas country prior to entry on to the course. A UK DBS check will be required after enrolment.
