MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration)

Course Description

With accreditation from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Health and Care Professions Council, our course allows you to gain the expertise and knowledge to become a practising physiotherapist. As a physiotherapist you will help people of all ages to manage pain and dysfunction, and you’ll promote health.



Covering the core areas of neuromusculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological physiotherapy you will learn how to think independently and problem solve in a clinical capacity. You will acquire comprehensive hands-on experience through a selection of diverse clinical practice placements, which can be based in primary and community care or hospital settings.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have at least an upper second class honours degree completed in the last five years in the cognate subjects of Biological or Behavioural Science, Sports Science or a Health related profession. Your first degree must also have had a research training component and you should have completed an undergraduate research study.

Applicants who do not have English as their first language are required to have IELTS 7.0 with no skill below 6.5 or an equivalent award.

Satisfactory health and enhanced criminal history checks will be required by all applicants prior to acceptance on the course, these will be in line with professional body membership and HCPC registration requirements. The DBS in the UK is currently not able to conduct overseas criminal record checks. International applicants, those without British Citizenship and British Citizens with a significant period of overseas residency therefore require a criminal records check or certificate of good conduct from their home/overseas country prior to entry on to the course. A UK DBS check will be required after enrolment.

Physiotherapists have the opportunity to specialise in areas such as learning difficulties, mental health, sports medicine, education, research and management.

Module Details

Use problem based learning to relate pathophysiology to the process of assessing and managing individuals physiotherapeutically.

Combine knowledge and skills with critical reflective practice to develop your future clinical practice.

Accumulate 1000 hours of practice through supervised physiotherapy experience in a clinical setting. You will apply, integrate and build upon knowledge, skills and physiotherapeutic techniques, health promotion and client empowerment.

Sevelop your awareness of these areas through problem based learning, lectures, tutorials, group work, practical sessions, case studies and/or ‘expert patients’ so you are prepared for clinical experience.
