Course Description

This programme is a modular pathway within the postgraduate scheme. The course is for students who are building on their undergraduate and/or professional experience and who have a desire to study Sport and Exercise Psychology at a higher level.

Students may have the opportunity to work with clients under supervision following successful demonstration of the ability to practice ethically and within a range of competence.

Graduates of this course will be well equipped to pursue a higher degree through research (MPhil/PhD), enabling them to either develop a career within academia or use their specialist subject knowledge to seek employment in the sport/fitness/health industries.

Modules studied include Exercise Psychology, which aims to teach students about the various psychological factors behind exercise, such as personality, self-perceptions, participation motives, barriers to exercise and exploration of the social context. This learning helps feed into the Sport and Exercise Psychology in Practice module, which will see students applying what they have learnt in a practical context to help improve the performance of their own and others? sports and exercise activities.

Entry Requirements

Normally a good honours degree or equivalent prior learning/experience, in sport and exercise science or a related discipline is required.
