Study Details: PGCE 1 year Full-time
The course is aimed at graduates who have a real passion, enthusiasm and commitment to joining the teaching profession as a primary teacher with maths specialism, and who might want to become a leader in mathematics across a school setting.
Through our PGCE we will help you build on this passion for teaching children in early years up to year six. You will prepare to teach all subjects across the curriculum, and study primary mathematics in depth. On successfully completing your PGCE, as well as pursuing your teaching career and moving into completing your Early Career Teacher induction, there is also potential for you to engage in further study for a full Masters and on to a Doctorate in Education.
This course is designed to support you in gaining a PGCE Primary and achieving the standards to be a Qualified Teacher, with a focus on primary mathematics.
Initial Teacher Education placements statement
We are keeping our approach to Initial Teacher Education placements under constant review. At present we are planning to run all our Initial Teacher Education Courses as advertised.
A good honours degree (2:2 or above), GCSE maths at Grade B or Grade 6, GCSE English language and GCSE science at Grade C or Grade 5 or above (or equivalent). It is desirable but not essential that you also have an A Level in mathematics or a related subject at Grade C or above, and/or significant related, education-based work experience.
Successful completion of the Occupational Health Clearance and a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
You will be asked to complete the online primary mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement course to ensure your understanding of mathematics in the primary curriculum is completely secure before you start the course.
