  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    MSc: 12 months full-time; 24 months part‑time PgDip: 9 months full-time PgCert: 3-4 months full-time

Course Description

Throughout the world there are numerous projects, programmes or initiatives that aim to improve society, people’s lifestyles, health and/or wellbeing. Yet many of these fail. Most are poorly designed and badly, if ever, evaluated.

This new MSc will provide the knowledge and skills to: (a) develop programmes in a logical, evidence-based way to maximise their likely effectiveness, and (b) evaluate them robustly so that we do not waste precious resources on programmes that don’t work.

WHY THIS PROGRAMME

  • Will benefit professionals whose work involves the development or evaluation of projects, programmes and initiatives to improve social or health outcomes, or students who hope to be involved in such work in the future.
  • One of only two MScs in the UK that focuses on how to develop programmes.
  • Taught by world leading researchers in programme development and evaluation from the Institute of Health & Wellbeing – an internationally recognised centre of excellence in solutions-focused research, which includes the MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit – and practitioners with extensive real world experience of both large and small scale evaluations.
  • Provides an understanding of the key principles of evaluation and the technical knowledge and skills for evaluation design and management.
  • Undertake a project in an area of their own interest that will allow them to experience the constraints and contingencies of real world programme development or evaluation.
  • Optional courses allow occupational or subject specialism, or the development of specific research skills.
