How a top-ranked marketing MSc prepared me for a job in the UK

Alumni Dikshant Arora, originally from India, talks about his experience of life and learning in Bath and his role as a marketing executive at a UK company.

Working in marketing in the UK

As a marketing executive at TGS Automotive Group, my role involves:

  • conducting market research to gain insights into customer preferences
  • monitoring competitors and industry trends
  • developing data-driven social media and content strategies that engage our audience

My aim is to build stronger customer relationships, improve lead generation through high-quality content, and ultimately support the company’s continued growth in the automotive market.

Applying what I learned during my degree

The marketing principles covered in the modules on my MSc course provided a strong base of knowledge that has been valuable in my current role. The networking opportunities I had were equally beneficial.

I was also selected as the social representative for my course, organised multiple social events and the master’s ball and attended the debate sessions organised by the School of Management. These experiences helped me develop communication and interpersonal skills that are indispensable in the professional world. I learned how to connect with people, be an engaging communicator, and build relationships.

My lecturers were exceptional, not only during lectures but also in providing support outside of class. The career support team was also invaluable. They prepared me for interviews, organised career fairs with industry professionals and provided insights into job market trends.

My experience as an international student

As an international student, studying at Bath was both fascinating and overwhelming. Nearly everything differed from my home country’s academics and lifestyle. Having dreamed of studying abroad since high school, I was eager but cautious in this new environment.

When I started my course, I felt excited but also anxious. But, as time passed, I began to build connections and expand my professional network. I discovered a real sense of community at Bath, where I felt a true belonging.

Making those early transitions smoothly required patience and an openness to seek help. The University provides exceptional support services for international students. In a short time, Bath genuinely felt like a home away from home. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity led to personal growth, lifelong friendships and an international perspective.

My advice for prospective master’s students

Studying the MSc in Marketing at Bath is intense but super rewarding. The course covers all the key stuff like consumer behaviour, branding, digital marketing and analytics. To make the absolute most of it, be ready to take on challenges and keep learning. The time will fly by so fast, so come in curious every day.

Step out of your comfort zone and chat with current students to get the inside scoop. Bath has great opportunities for real experience through projects like the Practice Track which gave hands-on experience including working for a company and an NGO. Keep your eyes on what you want to achieve and take every chance to learn. Coming in with an open and proactive mindset will allow you to maximize your growth and crush it in your future career.

This experience is going to be awesome – embrace it!
