Harish Babu: I’ve learned the importance of networking, teamwork and communication
From great facilities to support for funding and career development, Harish loves his MSc experience.
I chose to study a Master’s for a range of reasons. For personal development, networking opportunities, and to gain specialist knowledge in manufacturing, as well as improving my career prospects and earning potential.
I chose the University of Portsmouth because it provided the subject I want to specialise in, through in-depth exploration of advanced manufacturing techniques and materials.
Making the most of great facilities
Before starting my Master’s I had completed a BTEC Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and a BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Studying MSc Advanced Manufacturing Technology at Portsmouth, I can use CAD/CAM software such as CREO and Ansys, and make the most of great facilities such as metrology, the energy systems design lab, and the 3D printing lab.
Postgrad life outside study
When not studying, I’m an ambassador for the University and have a part-time job in a local supermarket. I visit the gym three times a week, enjoy Portsmouth’s beautiful beaches, work on my motorbike, and take part in student society activities.
Growing as a person and a professional
At Portsmouth I’ve learned about the importance of networking, teamwork and communication. I’ve become better at public speaking and my time management skills have improved.
The University also helps me make progress through the additional support it offers in personal, academic and career development – from the Maths Cafe, to the opportunity to learn another language for free.
All of these things will help me reach my goals for a specialised career in manufacturing.
